Constitution

Purpose:

The purpose of our Garden Club is to encourage and stimulate the love of gardening and related subjects through mutual assistance in collecting & distributing information related to the care and culture of fruits, flowers, vegetables, etc.

Meetings:

Meetings are on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

  • Most in-person meetings are at ESQUIMALT UNITED CHURCH in WHEELEY HALL, 500 Admirals Road (Admirals at Lyall – – with the Hall entrance on Lyall)
  • For members to avoid driving after dark, the February meeting is on Zoom.
  • The June meeting is a social gathering at a member’s garden.
  • There are no meetings in January, July, August and December.           (Effective May 2022)

Fees:

The annual membership fee is $15 per person or $20 per family, payable in January via e-transfer. There is a $10 fee to cover some of the print & postage expenses for memberships that require a mailed hard copy of newsletters. These amounts are to be reviewed annually.           (Effective April 2022)

 Future members joining after September 1st pay ½ the membership fee for the current calendar year.          (Effective October 2018)

Shows:

There is a  Spring Show each April, a Rose Show each June, and a Fall Show each September. These dates are set by the Executive.

Executive:

The Officers of the Club shall consist of:

  • Past-President
  • President,
  • Vice-President,
  • Secretary,
  • Treasurer
  • 7 Members-at-Large coordinating: membership, speakers, newsletter, publicity, catering, shows,  mini shows.
  • Additional support is provided with: plant sales, club tours, trophies, door prizes, membership outreach, guest services, website maintenance, zoom hosting, A/V support, and meeting space liaison.

The Past-President, President, and Vice-President typically serve for one year in each role, making it a 3-year commitment. All other officers typically commit for two years.
It’s understood that each officer volunteers as available. If a volunteer can’t complete their term, the Executive shall find another member to fill the vacancy.  When there is no president, a volunteer Chair is sought to fill the role on a month-by-month basis.          (Effective 2022)

New Executive:

The new Executive will be announced at the November meeting each year.
