for Best Bloom in the Annual Show
(now known as the Fall Show)
Donated in 1972 by Meryl Campbell and her father, Fred Campbell.
Meryl, an honourary member of the club, was a very accomplished woman and capped off her long career when she was appointed the 1st woman Deputy Minister of the Public Service Commission in BC.
Over the years, she held executive positions in the View Royal Garden Club starting in 1964 as President, a 2-year position she held 3 different times.
She loved gardening, and her spring garden was a joy to behold. Her little dog Andy was a faithful and treasured companion. She was captivated by new cultivars of narcissus and was still entering them at the Spring Show in 2003. Meryl wrote, “The 40 Years of Gardening In View Royal from 1949-1989,” an invaluable record of our organization.
Meryl Campbell had a very high position in Government and apparently told club members what they would be doing rather than asking for help!! She showed exotic (to me) spring bulbs and would have her garden open to the club. Quite a pleasant well-organized woman.
